Blackpool August 2003

In daylight pretty pictures attached well beyond hands high
glisten with morning dew, shimmer in sunlight, vibrate with unseen winds
as we wait for dusk

then timer switched they come alive, lighting night sky and eye
with bulb brilliance
each cluster relates stories, songs, dance,
from drawing board to side walk

here flowers in pretence of colour, twinkling stars, comic cuts,
nursery rhyme themes
hobby horses coloured pastel, gallop roundabout’s riderless

We can only stare unable to touch, this miles long spectacle
as we walk our own journey of imagination
Then, when it is almost dawn, the timed switches are set to off
